You can make the recipe as it is, or experiment with different mix-ins – like your favorite dried fruit or a spoonful of peanut or almond butter. To make them, stir together the flour, baking soda, salt, butter and sugars until creamy. The brown sugar will give your Trail Side Oatmeal Treats a warm and wonderful depth. Beat in the eggs, Smith's Milk and vanilla, then stir in the walnuts, chocolate chips and those nutritious oats. Drop by delicious spoonful onto a cookie sheet and bake. How to Make


  • 1-3/4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup softened butter or margarine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 1/4 cup Smith's milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2-1/2 cups uncooked oatmeal
  • 12 oz chocolate chips


  1. Stir flour, soda, salt, butter and sugars until creamy.
  2. Beat in eggs, Smith's milk and vanilla.
  3. Stir in oats and chips.
  4. Drop by spoonful on cookie sheets.
  5. Bake for 15 minutes at 350 F.
